"Paris Romance" Sewing Curriculum
Fashion Clothing for Teens & Adults (Ages 13 & Up)
In this intermediate knit course teens will make 5 "Paris Romance" garments. Items include a Parisian Dress (strapless with lace bow), Vintage Dress (with scoop neckline and full circle skirt), Fierce Leggings (with fold down waist), a Romantic Lace Shrug, and a Retro Headband.
What Students Will Learn/Experience Needed:
Students will build their skills by learning how to work with knit fabrics in this course. It's best that they have at least 6 months of sewing experience (like one of the previous teen classes working with woven fabric).
Working with knit fabrics takes a gently hand and can be more tricky, but some girls prefer this fabric over knits. One of the dresses will have lace on the bottom bottom which requires they know how to accurately sew and go with the flow of the fabric. Less experienced students will require more attention, so a one-on-one class could be an option for them.
Each project starts with making patterns on poster board or large white paper (on a roll). They will be copying clothing they already have and drafting simple patterns. These lesson can't really be eliminated on this course because they need to learn how to make the patterns and fit themselves.
The step-by-step video instruction is divided into easy to watch segments ranging from 12 to 23 minutes for each class. This is perfect for a 1 to 2 hour class depending on how many students you have per class.
Course duration is 16 to 20 weekly classes (which is a total 24 to 30 hours in class) or 4 to 5 sewing summer camp full days.
