Step #4 - Find a Space and Time to Teach

Hello! So we are now on step number four. That is to find a place and time to teach. There's a number of different options you have here and it really depends on what you feel comfortable doing.

You can teach sewing in your home or you can find a space outside of your home.

And if you decide later that you'd like to do in your home, then I have further training on how to set up a really cute studio in your home and you can have an inspiration wall like the one behind me and just make it really fun.

Since you're just starting out, you might not feel comfortable bringing people into your home just yet. Then you might want to look around and see where can you set up to do some in classes.

So this could be maybe a co-op or maybe a school or a community center, maybe a church. Even a building where you know a store owner that might want to have you in their space. Maybe a quilt shop owner or a fabric shop owner.

Now, when I first started teaching, I actually taught at a co-op.

One of the ladies that was managing the whole thing came to me. She knew that I knew how to sew and she asked me if I wanted to teach a sewing class.

So I packed up some sewing machines. We came up with a class idea and we tried it and then we did several more before I decided that it'd be much easier to just move it into my home.

I already had a sewing studio in the front, two rooms in my colonial house because I was a dress designer. So I thought, why not? I'll just bring it back here and then I won't have to like drive and set up and bring machines.

That might be something you want to think about as well.

Now remember, whatever you choose today to start with doesn't mean that's where you're going to be in a year from now. Maybe you decide that you want to move it to your home. Maybe you decide you want to rent your own space.

For right now, we're just taking that first step towards teaching classes.

Now, once you've found your space, you want to figure out a time.

This might depend on the space that you are teaching in. So you'll want to find a time that works for you and the space owner as well as your students.

Okay, so that's basically it for today. I'll see you in another video. Bye. Bye.
